News March 21st, 2006 - SXSW and a new video

Just got back from playing SXSW where we all had a great time performing and meeting some of our favorite bands. We have a few dates in New York coming up and then will settle in to record the next album. We also have a new video set to the song "Drinkin' on the Job", staring andrea as a lush who's stuck working in an 8 to 5 cubicle job while dreaming of being a poet, and the rest of us being her automaton co-workers. Tell us what you think!

News Feb 24th, 2006 - DOMA Awards 2006

It’s that fun time of year again, when we all get to cast our votes to those bands/labels/artists that we feel deserve a little nod from their fans. The best way to say “good job” is to support your local music scene and come see the bands you like. For those of you that would like to go the extra mile and take a break from work/school to vote for your faves then please follow the link below.

The Happy Bullets are hoping to get nominated for the following:

Best Act- I know it’s a long stretch, but what the heck… Best Song- (the Vice and Virtue Ministry)-well, why not?
Best Album- (the Vice and Virtue Ministry)-it’s no Abbey Road but it’s listenable!
Best Record Label- (Undeniable Records)- that should be a given, come one now…

Thanks again for your support, hopefully we’ll see you when we’re at SXSW next month!

2/14/06 Happy Valentines Day!

We've been a little lazy with updating the news recently. We just found out about our slot at SXSW and will be updating the shows link soon. We've been slowly acquiring gear to record the next record that, if all goes well, we'll be released in the fall. We've got a few shows heading up to New York after SXSW and we'll post those dates within the next few weeks. Can't wait to see everyone at the shows!

11/17/05 More reviews added...

We finally got around to uploading the latest reviews from the Entertainment Weekly, The Phoenix Times, Detroit Metro Times, and the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. We'll be playing the morning show on Fox 4 News in Dallas on Dec. 2nd and also talking about the event we're throwing at the Texas Theater called the Art Conspiracy. It's going to be pretty big. We've got a little over 100 artists slated to paint the day prior to the opening. After that show we'll be heading up to Chicago and Lawrance, KS for a couple of gigs. Hope to see everyone at the shows!

09/29/05 T-Shirt Design Contest!

There are two reasons for this post. First off, we need your help. We are out of t-shirts and we need new ones designed. After much brainstorming on ideas, we decided to hand it over to you! We’re having a contest to see who can submit to us the next Happy Bullets t-shirt design. Feel free to get ideas from present artwork, or use completely original ideas. There are only a few stipulations:

1. Please don’t use any “bullets” in your artwork.
2. We can only afford a shirt with a max. of 3 colors (not including the color of the shirt.)
3. Be creative, everyone can submit and several designs will be chosen.
4. Please use Adobe Illustrator or other program that creates vector (non-pixel) artwork.

After we receive the submissions, we will post the best designs on our website so that you and your friends can vote on the next 2 or 3 t-shirt designs! The winners will get a free merch. kit and will be put on the guest list at the next HB show of their choice. If you are interested in participating, please email Andrea@HappyBullets.com or Josh@HappyBullets.com and we’ll send you some sample art from other bands that we really like to give you an idea on direction. Deadline for submissions is October 15th! Thanks for your creative input; this will be lots of fun!

Secondly, we are in need of a merch person or two. This person will be in charge of selling CDs, t-shirts, etc… and managing the mailing list at shows. You must be available at all of our local shows (DFW metroplex - touring optional). We usually play local shows 2-3 times per month. You will be on the guest list at all shows and will get a free shirt and CD. This will not start until the end of October as we need to order more shirts. Please email Andrea@HappyBullets.com or Josh@HappyBullets.com if you are interested.

Thank You,
Andrea Roberts

Several big shows coming up! We've been working on new material and are hoping to start unrolling a few of the new songs at some of these shows. Fishboy's CD Release show is going to be great! Lots of suprises in store (costumes, jumpropes, balloons, and more). It will be fairly crazy and if you've never had a chance to catch the Fish in action then you truly are missing out. He inspired us early on when we were first getting started. We've had a chance to listen to the new album and ever track is great!

Sample Press If you haven't yet, pick up the latest issue of the D/FW zine Sample Press. We're featured with a 4 page article and interview with Tim and Jason. There's also a great interview with John Dufhilo of the Deathray Davies where he talks about they're new upcoming album The Kick and the Snare. You can listen to a track from the new album at www.glurp.com.

Also check out the new comic Karma Incorporated by David Hopkins. They're using a song from our first album "Blue Skies and Umbrellas" called "Kerosene Heart" in a video promo to support its release.

We're playing a few shows up North in the coming weeks and a couple in Austin/San Marcos in May. Several more big plans to come for the summer.

Thank you everyone for making our record the #1 selling cd at Good Records for the week and the Tah-Dah's album is #2!!! More pics from the Good Records In-Store can be found here, and here thanks to Brian Hess for the latter pics. We now have t-shirts available which can be purchased from the Undeniable Records website. The girls shirt was designed by local artist and good friend Jennifer Morgan. If you live in the D/FW area you may have seen her stuff all over the place. The Denton and Dallas release party shows are both this week, check the "Shows" link for dates. Jason, Tim, and Kris will be performing at the IR Art Gallery using only two toy pianos, a cello, and a sampler June 4th which is right around the time Kris gets back from touring Europe with the Paper Chase.

Thank you everyone for coming out to the Good Records In-store, we had a blast! We floated the keg in less than 2 hours and sold a ton of cd's! Thanks also to Chris, Zak and Kelly of Undeniable Records for helping coordinate the entire effort! If you live in Denton, be sure to listen to KNTU at 10 PM tonight (88.1FM - Frequency Down w/Frank Hejl). We recorded a half hour of some of our favorite music and talked about each track. You can listen live online at www.kntu.com.

There's tons of shows coming up and we'll be hitting the road this summer for even more! The online voting is now available at Dallas Observer: http://www.dallasobserver.com/musicawards/2005/mafinal. We've been nominated for best new act along with some other great bands:

pilotdrift
Black Tie Dynasty
the Hourly Radio
Red Monroe
A Dozen Furies

Make sure to vote in more than just one category and not to vote more than once from your computer, as that will appear as ballot stuffing.

The CD's are now available for pre-order online and will officially be for sale at Good Records, CD World, CD Universe, and CD Addict in Dallas on March 29th. We've added more press from the recent articles in The Dallas Morning News and we've been nominated for "Best New Act" in the Dallas Observer. We've got a video in the works for "The Vice and Virtue Ministry" and we'll probably be making a casting call to our mailing list for several extras, so be sure to sign up so that we can email you with details.

02/16/2005

The cd release shows have all been added to the "Shows" section of the site. We'll be in Denton, Dallas, Austin, and San Marcos in early April to promote the release. The Dallas show at Sons of Hermann Hall will include The Theater Fire, Fishboy, and the Tah-Dah's, which I guarantee will be one of the most energetic and intersting bills around. These are our favorite bands around and we're all excited to have them all on one stage. If you didn't get a chance to catch Fishboy open for Spoon, or Mates of State, now's your chance, and The Theater Fire is about to head off to California for an upcoming video / documentary.

01/15/2005

The tapes for the new album are being sent off to NY now for mastering. Now the fun part, artwork, sequencing, etc. begins. Stuart Sikes (Cat Power, Jets to Brazil, the Walkmen) engineered the album and did a great job. Our new label Undeniable Records will release the album in March. Undeniable will also release the Tah-Dah's album at the same time, so we'll be having a dual release party.

On Sunday January 23rd, Josh Venable will air an acoustic session that we recorded for the Edge (D/FW 102.1FM) in December, and we'll be headlining a show at the Gypsy Tea Room the following Thursday with some great local bands. Will be on the road with Pleasant Grove in February and back home just in time for the new record!!!
